Shopify RFM customer segments
RFM sorts customers by how recently they bought, how often, and how much. You see your best buyers, the ones slipping away, and the one-time visitors.
The question
“Who are my best customers, and who is about to stop buying?”
Ask it in your own words. You get the answer, with the steps that made it.
What in your data answers it
These are the fields the connector reads.
| Stream | Field | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| orders | customer_id | Who placed the order. |
| orders | created_at | When. This gives recency: how long since the last order. |
| orders | order_id | One per order. Counting them gives frequency. |
| orders | total_price | What the order came to. Adding it up gives money spent. |
Shopify pulls the last 60 days of orders by default. A longer window sorts customers more fairly.
A real sample report
This sample report runs RFM on public online-store order data (UCI Online Retail). It is not Shopify data. A Shopify order carries the same three facts: a customer, a date and an amount.
Other questions to ask
- “Who are my top spenders and when did they last order?”
- “Which customers have not ordered in a long time?”

Questions
What do the segments mean?
Champions buy often, recently and spend the most. Others are slipping, new, or bought once. The report names each group and counts it.
Do I need to export a file?
No. Connect Shopify and ask. A CSV export also works.
Does it change my store?
No. We only read.
